Lisa Cary (formerly Lewis) is the definition of never give up.  Lisa has been hit with countless setbacks throughout her life as an athlete.  Allergies and asthma have given her a few issues, several times thru the years.  Lisa was a successful runner plagued by injuries during her high school career at St Josephs Academy.  She qualified for state in XC a couple of times, but just missed out in her favorite sport: track.  She pushed on and became a, “walk-on,” at Missouri State.  While there, she ran her way on to their all-time top 10 list in the steeplechase.  After a transfer to Lindenwood, the injury bug bit again.  At the NAIA Indoor Nationals, a bone in Lisa’s foot shattered with a couple laps to go in the 3000m prelims.  Lisa finished and qualified for finals, but her season was over. After graduating from Lindenwood with a double major and school records in the steeplechase and indoor 3000m, Lisa began to pursue triathlons.  An accomplished swimmer, Lisa was an All-American in Olympic Distance Triathlon just a couple of years out of college.  While doing tris though, her running PRs began to drop as well.  Lisa decided that she hadn’t maxed out in running yet and decided to focus back on her favorite sport: track.  In no time at all she’s destroyed all of her college PRs and continues to show tremendous improvement.  Free from injuries for several years now (knock on wood) Lisa’s been able to stack training to the point where her 5k pace is faster than her college mile pr.  Gradually, working her way up the steeple rankings, Lisa’s focused on working her way to the USA Track Olympic Trials in 2020.
