Runnababez Win STL Marathon Relay

20 Nov

The Runnababez partook in the St. Louis Track Club relay yesterday.  The team consisted of Courtney McDermott, Justine Cantwell, Jessica File & Lisa Cary.  Instead of their weekend team long run, they used this race as a workout.

Each leg consisted of a 5k, handing off to the next runner who then ran a 5k, repeating again thru the line up so  each person completed two 5k’s. which added up to a marathon.

The Runnababez were led off with a speedy start by Courtney McDermott, who handed off to a  very solid second leg in Justine, and another strong 5k in Jessica.  They later figured out they were in second to Wash U’s team.  During Lisa’s first 5k the Runnababez caught WashU, and then WashU passed them back.  It was a great race! The Runnababez sealed the deal for the win, when Jessica  passed WashU for the final time on her last leg, handing it off to Lisa who grew the lead by over a minute.  The Runnababez finished the marathon in 2:58, beating WashU and having the 2nd fastest relay time for women in the relay history!

The Runnababez did some racing this weekend to say the least!  Let’s get things started with Amy Marxkors.  Amy ran in the Indiana Monumental Marathon.  She set a goal a while back on breaking 3 hrs for the marathon.  She had been sharing her journey and thoughts on the Fleet Feet articles that have gone out each week.  Amy ran a great race and  hit her goal, smashing her previous PR of 3:05, to run 2:59.55 in the process! She was also the first Missouri woman to finish the race, and 22nd female overall.

Jackie Pirtle-Hall participated in a St. Louis favorite race,  The St. Louis Track Club Half Marathon, she ran 1:20 to place second woman overall!  Meanwhile, Lisa Cary is trying to get back to serious training, ran in the Bass Pro Shop 5k, in Springfield MO.  She placed 2nd woman overall, in 20:02.
