The End of Hibernation

23 Mar

The end of hibernation for the Runnababez means it’s time to knock some rust off the ole racing flats.  Over the past couple of weeks, the Runnababez have taken their show on the road.  Three Runnababez ran four races in four different states over the past two weeks.

Their spring into spring was kicked off by Amy visiting our nation’s capital to tackle the Rock n Roll DC half marathon.  Despite venturing into tourist mode a bit prior to her race, she still had a great performance in less than ideal weather conditions.  She finished 45th out of close to 10,000 women.  For a great read on how the race went, enjoy Amy’s article about the trip.

That same morning back home in Missouri, Lisa looked to defend her title at the Run for the Helmet St Patrick’s Day 7k.  Despite being deep in marathon training, she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to tackle this awesome race through the streets of Cottleville.  Leading from wire to wire, Lisa took home her second straight women’s title while finishing 4th place overall (men included).

This past weekend, Cheryl decided to enjoy her spring break Runnababez style.  She toed the line at the Blue Angels Rock n Fly half marathon in Pensacola, Florida.  What better way to enjoy a Gulf Coast breeze in the morning than by cranking out a little over 13 miles in under an hour and a half?  Cheryl’s effort means she’ll be coming home from vacation with an awesome 2nd place finish in the women’s race.

Apparently Half Marathons were the entrée of choice for the Runnababez over these past couple of weeks.  Lisa decided last minute to hop in the Alton Half Marathon, crossing yet another state off the girls couple week nationwide racing extravaganza.  Having a long marathon paced run on her schedule, Lisa loved the motivation the Alton half provided.  She came away from the race with the women’s title along with a new course record to boot.

As the temps heat up, so will the Runnababez performances.  With several other racing opportunities on the horizon, look for the Runnababez to continue to shake the winter from their feet.  The spring racing season is upon us, these next few months promise to be Fun. Fast. Fabulous!
