Amanda Albrecht 3rd Place in Rock & Roll STL Half!

28 Oct

Amanda raced the Rock & Roll STL Half marathon this past weekend on a brisk Sunday morning.  Amanda continued her  PR streak, by breaking her previous half marathon PR from a  month ago, by a minute running 1:25:32 to finish 3rd overall among the women!

Look for the action to continue with the Runnababez as they are gearing up for an upcoming big weekend of racing at the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon Saturday, and the St. Louis Track Club Half Marathon on Sunday.

The Hits Just Keep on Coming

21 Oct

After a busy three week run of racing, this was originally expected to be a quiet weekend for the Runnababez. Amy and Lisa cast that notion aside as they toed the line for a pair of races. Healthy and donning the Runnababez Racing singlet for the first time, Amy hopped in her first race in several months. The brisk Saturday morning chill quickly heated up as she burned up the Chesterfield Valley in the 12th Annual Gumbo Flats Pumpkin 5k/10k. 40:53 after the starting horn sounded, Amy enjoyed cross the finish line victorious. Not a bad Runnababez debut for The Lola Papers author.

Meanwhile, just a county away, Lisa decided to hop into her alma mater’s homecoming “Race to be King” 5k. Racing through Lindenwood’s campus had to be a case of deja vu… although this time there was finishline, rather than a classroom, awaiting. Lisa took home top female honors with a solid 17:50 on the twisty and hilly 5k. Gotta be nice to ace another test on the stomping grounds, eh?

Lisa’s weekend wasn’t over yet. Sunday evening she was awarded the USATF Ozark Association Womens Long Distance Running 2013 Athlete of the Year Award. Lisa’s MO Cowbell Half Marathon victory a couple of weeks back helped separate her from a pack of athlete’s that all had outstanding season’s to earn her this award. Lisa was honored to receive the award from running aficionado and friend, Rich Anderson. The USATF Ozark Association banquet was a tremendous evening. It was great to see so many young aspiring athletes being rewarded for their hard work and dedication. The Runnababez looks forward to following many of the young women and men we met at the dinner. Congrats and keep up the stellar work.

Scary Good Day at the GO! Halloween Races

15 Oct

Jackie, Amanda, Lisa, Cheryl, LaurenThe Runnababez continued their torrid pace through the fall racing calendar this past weekend at the GO! Halloween Races. With ghoulish glee, they tackled the 5k, 10k, and half marathon. The morning started out with Carine racing the 5k. Just a week after winning the MO Cowbell 5k, Carine threw down a very respectable 20:57 on a course that ended up closer to 3.5 miles than 3.1. Carine set the tone for what would be a stellar race day indeed.

Next up was the most hyped race of the day, the 10k. Jackie and Lauren toed the line against many of the best in the area. From the gun, you could tell this was going to be a barn burner. Through the first several miles, Jackie sat in 2nd place, while Lauren was just outside the top 10. With teammates, Lisa, Amanda, and Carine cheering all over the course, The Runnababez made their assault on the field. With a little less than a half mile to go, the announcer began wondering aloud whom might be the first to come into view and claim the victory. As he completed the list without mentioning Jackie, Lisa swears she saw/heard smoke flare through Jackie’s snout. Jackie dug down and increased her lead to take the win in 35:43. Lauren continued to move up throughout the race to claim a PR of 43:16, good for 9th place.

As the 10k was going on, there was one more race in progress, the half marathon. Running in her first half, Cheryl tackled south St Louis like a vet. With about a mile to go, Cheryl crested the last hill to find her Runnababez teammates lined up cheering her on. Finishing in an awesome time of 1:23:26, Cheryl took home second place honors. Quite a day for the rookie.

Jackie, Amanda, Carine

In the last 3 weeks, the Runnababez have enjoyed a tremendous string of success.
– Amanda with the win at the Baja Half Marathon
– Lisa with the win at the Cowbell Half Marathon
– Carine with the win at the Cowbell and GO Halloween 5k’s, and 2nd at the Monsanto United Way 5k
– Jackie with the win at the GO Halloween 10k
– Cheryl with a 2nd at the GO Halloween Half Marathon
– Lauren with a 9th at the GO Halloween 10k
With a few more weeks of fall racing still to be done, keep your eyes out for the Runnababez out their showing off their pink pride as they exemplify their slogan… FUN. FAST. FABULOUS.

Mo Cowbell Anyone?

6 Oct

IMG_1207Another week, another set of races, another set of PR’s and victories. The Runnababez continue their scorching fall fiesta this weekend. Carine kick started the festivities at the Monsanto United Way 5k. 19:45 after the gun sounded, she hit the finishline with a brand new PR and a 3rd place overall finish. Knocking nearly 30 seconds off her previous best, it was Carine’s first time under 20 minutes.

As the infomercials say, “But wait, there’s more!!!” A little less than 24 hours later, Carine toed the line to race the MO Cowbell 5k. Apparently once under 20 just wasn’t enough for Carine. Her 19:49 earned her the women’s 5k title. The Runnababez weren’t done at the Cowbell though. Lisa Cary and 2500 fellow runners tackled some blustery weather and 13.1 miles of St. Charles roads in the MO Cowbell Half. Settling into a comfortable pace in preparation for a marathon, Lisa enjoyed a fantastic run. Smiling all the way in, Lisa broke the tape in 1:23:57 as the women’s champion.

Look for the Runnababez to be out and about all fall at a race near you. Next up on the agenda is the GO! Halloween races this coming weekend. Hope to see you there.
